    Photo Distribution

    Pixelpipelogo

So you have a nice nifty digital camera or even a video camera. You take lots of shots and you want to get it out there for everyone to share. The problem is, whether you useMySpace, FaceBook, Flickr, Picasa or whatever to share with, usually you do it on more than just one. Lets say you have been manually uploading your favorite pictures on each. Cumbersome right? There is a tool I have been using for a while now to take some of the pain out of sharing my pictures to many places. It’s called PixelPipe and it will save you a ton of time.

PixelPipe is a great service that lets you upload images, video or text once and have it distributed out to as many locations as you set up. These locations are called Pipes. I can only assume it is in reference to plumbing. Whatever the logic behind it, it is a use and forget concept. The hardest part of using PixelPipe is initially setting up the pipes.

Adding pipes to your account is really straight forward as PixelPipe has taken care of most of the behind the scene technology needed to plug you into almost 113 different distribution points. Everything from 12seconds and Acrobat.com to Zoomr andYoutube. That is to say almost everything from A to Z. Even with so many distribution points, you can still add more if your service allows posting via email.

PixelPipe also distributes to email. So for services like Whrrl or your own hosted blog, if you have an email posting service you can add it as a Pipe and anything you upload to PixelPipe will be posted there. At the time of this writing, I have 15 different services that will receive anything I upload through PixelPipe.

The upload process is pretty straight forward and there is a complete Tools page for you to leverage uploading to the service. You can perform an upload through the QuickPost feature on the website, by posting via email or MMS, directly from their application on the iPhone, Android, Nokia S60 & N900 and the Palm Pre. It doesn’t stop there. You also have access to post from IM with Google Talk orYahoo Messenger or any IM that uses the Jabber/SMPP protocol (language).

There are numerous other mechanisms to upload to PixelPipe from your desktop whether it be Windows, Mac or Linux. Essentially rounding out any possible way to send pictures, video or text into PixelPipe.

The great thing again about PixelPipe is that you only need to worry about how to get the images to PixelPipe. Once you figure that out pushing it out to every place you want share it from is all handled by PixelPipe. For me personally in my distribution workflow, it is a huge timesaver.
